Childline Rocks

+ posted by FlamingWhopper

From the Hot Leg Myspace page:

The Leg are set to appear at Childline Rocks!

CHILDLINE ROCKS returns to the IndigO2 on June 1st 2009, the follow up to last year’s hugely successful inaugural event.

This year’s line-up is already falling into place with some big flight names still to be announced. Among the artists so far confirmed are: Jon Lord, Glenn Hughes, Hot Leg, The Pretty Things, Uriah Heep, Steve Balsamo, Sons Of Albion, Andy Newmark and Molly Marriott.

The show promises to build on the success of 2008 where the cream of British rock, including Roger Daltrey, Lulu, Thunder, Marillion and members of Deep Purple, turned out to support ChildLine, the 24 hour confidential helpline provided by the NSPCC for children who are in danger or distress or worried about a problem.

ChildLine Rocks 2009 will make a significant contribution to the Child’s Voice Appeal to raise £50 million to ensure that every child’s call for help gets answered. Currently, only two-thirds of all calls made to ChildLine are able to get through to a counsellor.

Tickets for the show are priced £200 (VIP), £40 (seated) and £25 (standing) and are available now from: HYPERLINK "http://www.wegottickets.com" www.wegottickets.com.

Every penny makes a difference for example, the £25 cost of the cheapest ticket could pay for six calls from children, at least one of whom is likely to be phoning about physical or sexual abuse.

As in 2008, legendary DJ Bob Harris will compere ChildLine Rocks. Last year the event raised more than £100,000 for ChildLine. Commenting on the unforgettable night Harris said, “It was a magical evening for the bands and fans alike. We couldn’t have asked for better support from the industry and the intimacy of the venue meant the audience were treated to some of the biggest names in rock playing to them at almost touching distance.”

ChildLine president and founder Esther Rantzen said, "ChildLine Rocks was a fantastic success when we launched it and raised a phenomenal amount of money for ChildLine.

Great music great.

Hot Leg and the pursuit of fun

+ posted by FlamingWhopper

Why do we listen to music? Sometimes it’s a way of associating ourselves with something cool or exclusive. Alternatively it can be purely for the pleasure of it. Often i suspect it falls somewhere in between. When a certain type of music is makes us happy, but posesses no inherent cool factor or arbitrary stamp of approval from the media and tastemakers, we are tempted to brand it a “guilty pleasure”. But should there really be any guilt involved in something as simple as enjoying a piece of music?

BE: Well, I saw that Hot Leg, with Justin Hawkins singing, was in the first episode.

CO: That’s right; he is in the first episode.

BE: I have yet to hear his new band, but I was a huge Darkness fan.

CO: Yeah, I was a Darkness fan. I haven’t heard his new band, either. He’s a nice guy, though. He was really fun.
